The Dark Tower I: The Gun Slinger
by Stephen King
I read this book because I saw that the THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE, by Stephen King was in the top 10 of the top 100 best sellers and it was book 4.5 in the Dark Tower series… so I thought I’d work my way up to that. And while usually I don’t necessarily read what everyone else is reading… I figure it wouldn’t hurt to dip into normalcy with a little Stephen King (a little joke there!)
The best part of this book was the preface. It makes me like Stephen King.
So after reading the forward or preface whatever it was called I really tried to like this book. I tried to like this book more then just a little (which is all I could muster).
Things I liked: The characters while most were short lived were interesting and colorful.
Things I didn’t like: My constant unending sense of confusion.
It was not a thought-provoking confusion… a moved to higher thoughts confusion… or a confusion followed by any AH HA moments… it was simply an all-out…. full-on…. no-holds-barred…. confusion.
There are MANY MANY MANY people who are going to disagree with me. That’s great, it’s America (or atleast I’m in America) and you can disagree all you want, in fact I invite your comments (just keep ’em clean).
Maybe what I need is to read the rest of the books. Maybe, what I personally needed is to purchase all of the book in a single compilation book… while I didn’t hate this book, I’m not inclined to invest the 2 days it took to read it, into another book that will leave me… confused.
I will say this. It was riveting. I couldn’t put it down but I suspect that’s because I just wanted to understand (I am shaking my fists in angst at the sky and speaking in my best Captain Kirk) I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND!
This book is available on Kindle… enjoy and let me know what you think
