and the Big Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy
Part 1: The Night of the Nasty Nostril Nuggets
By Dav Pilkey
My 7 year old loved this book for many reasons… first and foremost, the word UNDERPANTS is in the title. And, for that reason alone this book is perfect for
readers in 2 – 5th grade… (or exceptional 1st grade readers).
The title tells the whole story, but what it doesn’t tell is that the writer uses a mixture of comic and pithy prose, oldstyle comics, Warning Notices and…. FLIP ACTION PAGES to entertain and engage the reader. (The Flip Action Pages are way cool!)
It’s hard to write a review about this one… because it was such a mishmash of things… so here’s the bullet list
- Loved the Vocabulary (assimilating, calculation and so on)
- Loved the Warnings: (for example: The following chapter is extremely gross. To avoid nausea, projectile vomiting, or other gastrointestinal unpleasantries please refrain from eating for at least one hour before reading this chapter)
- Liked the characters
- Enjoyed the story concept and story line
This Captain Underpants book is the perfect mix of childish humor, potty talk, graphics and fun for kids. I don’t feel like I ever need to read another one, but I’m not 7.
I will say this… I’ve read children’s books that are terrible. The stories are inane and insipid. They talk down to the kids and I think that the kids may even walk away dumber having read them… for all of it’s childishness, I don’t feel that way about this book.
